Frequently Asked Questions

Most of our office policies are listed below in a friendly question and answer format.  If you have further questions about how we do specific things, please ask your provider when you come in for your next visit.

How do I get REFILLS on my medications?
  • Refill requests are best made through your pharmacy, who will then contact us.
  • Many times we will give you enough refills to last until follow up is needed.  Consider coming in for an appointment when you are down to your last refill.
  • Please only call after hours for refills if it is a true emergency.
  • Please see below in regard to narcotics and controlled substances.
What should I BRING to my next visit?
  • Picture ID
  • Insurance card(s)
  • Up to date medication list (or bottles)
What if I have an urgent need AFTER HOURS?
  • Please call 911 if you have a medical emergency.
  • We do not prescribe antibiotics, narcotic pain medications, or "nerve" pills after hours.
  • One of our physicians is always available and we DO answer our calls.  If you have an urgent need you may contact the answering service at 877-570-5131.  If you have not heard from us within 30 minutes, please call the answering service again.
How do I get TEST RESULTS?
  • Our staff will be in touch with you as soon as possible with your results.
  • If you have not heard from us WITHIN A WEEK of your test, please feel free to call or e-mail for your results.
  • If your testing or blood work is normal, you may receive a normal card or letter in the mail.
When will I hear about my REFERRAL APPOINTMENT?
  • Urgent referrals are addressed as a priority, and you should be contacted by phone within 48 hours or sooner depending on the situation.
  • Routine specialist appointments are arranged as needed.  You will be contacted by phone within 10 days and may receive a letter if we cannot reach you.
  • If you have not heard from us within 2 weeks about your routine referral, please feel free to call.
What if I have to go to the HOSPITAL or NURSING FACILITY?
  • One of our physicians makes hospital rounds at Flaget Memorial Hospital each day and will see you the day you are admitted or on the following morning.  It may not necessarily be "your" doctor, but we work as a team and have immediate access to your office records.  We do share weekend call with Dr. Mark Abramovich.
  • We are among the only family physicians still seeing our patients routinely in the hospital.
  • We also see patients and make regular rounds at Colonial Health and Rehab, Life Care Center of Bardstown, Windsor Gardens, and the Loretto Motherhouse.
Why are refills on NARCOTICS & CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES handled differently?
  • Narcotics and controlled substances have potential to be habit-forming and are heavily regulated because of this.
  • It is important that you take your medication exactly as prescribed and not call early for refills.
  • You may be asked to sign a controlled substances contract and submit to periodic drug testing.
  • These medications will NOT be refilled after hours.
Why do you use a COMPUTERIZED CHART?
  • An electronic medical record (EMR) allows us to more accurately document your care and maintain your records.
  • We can securely view your records 24 hours a day.  This allows us to more efficiently meet your needs and coordinate your care in the hospital and with specialists.
  • Prescriptions can now be sent electronically to most local pharmacies which saves you time.
  • We have been using a computerized chart since August 2006 and believe we are well positioned for the changes coming to our health care system.
